José Ramón Morales has been a partner in the Corporate/Commercial Law Department at Garrigues since 2002 and heads the Firm’s Technology & Outsourcing industry group. He is also a member of Garrigues Digital, Garrigues’ FinTech Hub, Industry 4.0 Hub and Smart Cities group.
He is an expert in corporate and commercial law, as well as in technology law. He has participated in a number of M&A transactions, reorganizations, and private equity (including venture capital) deals. He has a wealth of expertise in legal advice on corporate, regulatory and transactional aspects in the area of technology and digital business projects and transactions, where he is a renowned expert. He provides advice to global players and emerging companies on a large number of projects related to the digital services market (including ecommerce platforms, cloud services, social media, mobile services and apps, and Blockchain-based platforms). He is an expert in providing legal support to tech-based and digital business start-ups and emerging companies.
He has taken part in high-profile corporate transactions (including investments, strategic alliances and joint-venture agreements) across a range of areas such as FinTech (ticketing, payment services, supply chain finance, among others), car-sharing and other mobility solutions, tourism, mobile services and apps, Smart Cities projects, online content, online marketing and social media, to mention but a few.
He has a solid track record in outsourcing projects and agreements, advising customers and vendors both in information technology and in business process outsourcing deals, with a particular emphasis on the financial industry, where he has participated in some of the most relevant and complex outsourcing transactions in Spain in recent years.
José Ramón Morales has been singled out by several legal directories, such as Legal 500 Europe (praised repeatedly as “Leading Individual” in Telecommunications, Media and Technology since 2012), Chambers & Partners in its Chambers Europe’s edition (TMT-IT), and Best Lawyers (mentioned as Lawyer of the Year in Spain in Technology Law in 2016 and 2017).
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Technology Law Association from 2012 to 2017, current member of the Nomination Committee as well as of its Outsourcing Committee. He is a member of the Legal Committee at aDigital (the Spanish Digital Economy Association).
